Cara Amanda, Oggi sono stata con G. mentre studiava sul suo terrazzo, con una video chiamata di WhatsApp. Il vento le faceva cadere il leggio. Il suono del violino era così forte che anche col volume del telefono al minimo, era assordante. Naturalmente di solito suona in casa, il panorama era un bonus per me. Ha avvisato il vicino di non preoccuparsi, che durava poco. E’ stato divertente. I musicisti del San Carlo si tengono in esercizio senza sapere quando torneranno a suonare. Il soprintendente Stéphane Lissner in videoconferenza ha ipotizzato una ripresa dei concerti la prossima estate in situazioni all’aperto e magari nei luoghi di sofferenza, all’esterno degli ospedali, delle carceri. Ma è presto per fare programmi. Nel frattempo i 300 lavoratori del San Carlo sono in cassa integrazione o consumano delle ferie.

Dear Simo, Today was an exciting day of mail delivery. Your package arrived, filled with so many beautiful things I had to sketch each of them. And how about these gorgeous handmade sketchbooks from our friends Antonio and Teresa in Sardegna? They sent them to you and then you to me and now we have no excuse not to continue this correspondence for as many pages as there are in these new sketchbooks. The other surprise was receiving a letter from my mom from the US. She had to send me a credit card to activate anyway and when she heard that we couldn’t find masks in our town she snuck into the envelope as many as she thought she could (3). We thought that the letter might be confiscated at the border because of these three masks, but it wasn’t, and somehow it arrived in just two weeks, faster than we were anticipating. The US also issued the stimulus checks today, $1200 per individual and $500 additional per child, which were automatically deposited into taxpayers’ bank accounts.
